How EBQ Optimized Project Alive’s Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack with a Phased Approach.
The Challenge
Project Alive is a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding treatment research to find a cure for Hunter syndrome. They are passionate about supporting research, advocating for families, providing resources, and actively fundraising for a cure.
To support their mission, Project Alive needed a CRM to act as their single source of truth.
“We didn’t have a good formal CRM for our donors. We couldn’t keep everything organized, help us with reporting, and following campaigns. We talked to our Executive Committee about adopting Salesforce since I’ve used it in the past,” said Karen Beatty, the Operations Manager at Project Alive.
The Project Alive team knew they needed some hands-on guidance on how to maximize their Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP), so they asked their Salesforce Account Executive to point them to the right administrator.
The Solution
Project Alive’s Salesforce Account Executive recommended two possible solutions — one of which was EBQ. The nonprofit found EBQ’s pricing model to be fair, but what stood out to them was the EBQ team. Kenley Ganem, one of EBQ’s Business Consultants, provided Project Alive with a solution right away. Soon, they hit the ground running.
“EBQ has helped us get organized a lot better, and they’ve given us something to build off of as we continue to grow. They’ve helped us play with it, tweak it, and make it exactly what we need right now,” said Karen.
Because funding and resources can be limiting for a nonprofit, EBQ and Project Alive opted to operate in a phased approach:
- Phase 1: Donor Tracking and Overall Platform Organization
- Phase 2: Grant Application and Tracking
- Phase 3: Program and Case Management
“The nice part about working with EBQ — especially with our Case Management project — is that it’s new for us. We knew that we didn’t have all the answers yet because we knew we needed to build it. At this point, we feel comfortable enough to go back and forth with EBQ as we figure out what we need,” said Kristin McKay, the Executive Director at Project Alive.
Throughout the partnership, both Kristin and Karen appreciate how EBQ runs their weekly meetings.
“I like that the meetings are efficient. EBQ will send us an agenda with the list of things we’re working on today, and they’ll take the time to make sure their past work works for us. I love that they want our feedback, so it’s always been great that we can ask them for new features. And if it’s not possible, EBQ will find a way. EBQ makes it really easy to work with them,” said Karen.
During the off-months with EBQ, the Project Alive team consistently review their meeting recordings to make sure they, too, can master Salesforce NPSP.
The Results
Today, the Project Alive team can better track donors and follow campaigns closely. The reporting feature has been crucial for their financial tracking — especially during tax season.
Over the years, EBQ and Project Alive have formed a close working relationship. Both Karen and Kristin appreciate how they can contact Kenley and the EBQ team whenever they are ready to kick-start their next phase. The nonprofit knows they can always work with their designated Project Manager, Andrew Wolfe, to present new ideas and fine-tune old ones.
“The amount of things EBQ needs from us is actually very minimal. I thought that I needed to dedicate a lot of time to reviewing their work, but it really hasn’t been very time-consuming. I like that EBQ utilizes our regular meetings so we can free-flow talk about it,” said Kristin.
Currently, the nonprofit is looking to implement a third-party app (GiveSmart) with Salesforce. They were looking for a seamless solution that allowed them to amplify their community outreach and host webinars. As soon as they were given the green light to implement GiveSmart, Kristin and Karen immediately contacted Kenley.
“We’ll keep coming back to EBQ. The whole team has been great! Andrew (EBQ’s Project Manager) has been wonderful to work through everything. We’ve had a great experience, and we’ll keep coming back! We’ll throw ideas at Kenley (EBQ’s Business Consultant), and he’ll tell us what to do. We’ll figure it out together. We’re now at a point in our partnership where EBQ knows us now; there’s no explanation needed,” said Karen.
If it’s not possible, EBQ will find a way. EBQ makes it really easy to work with them.
